Sweet Marcella's mom is my best friend. I was so excited when I found out she was pregnant with baby number 4 because all of our kids are so close in age and I had just had my fourth! For this blog post I am going to let mama tell her own birth story here as I feel this was is hers to tell.
"This entire pregnancy has been a roller coaster ride for me. Lots of ups and downs, laughs and tears and worries thinking about how life will be with 4 kids.
When I found out I was pregnant this time I knew exactly how I wanted to give birth. Natural, with no meds with my husband by my side helping me through it all.
After finding out that my amazing OB was no longer delivering babies I searched for what the next best thing would be for me. I tried another OB but quickly realized that it wasn't going to work for me. At that point I realized that giving birth at Mercy Birthing Center Midwifery Care - STL was the right choice for me. They had everything I wanted and needed to have a successful natural birth.
At my 36 week appointment they told me baby was not in an ideal position. Baby was transverse (sideways). At that moment I didn't know what to think. I tried to stay positive when they gave me the exercises to do to try and help baby turn and get head down because I knew in the back of my head what would happen if baby didn't turn. I did everything you could think of to get this baby to turn! I went to the chiropractor 3x a week, did the exercises they gave me and was basically standing on my head!
38 weeks came and still no change. Infact baby was now breech (head up butt and feet down)! I couldn't believe it! I had done everything to try and turn baby! My midwife then tells me that a c section is my safest option at this point. I felt like i just got punched in the gut. Everything I had worked so hard for and planned for was for nothing! A c section was THE LAST thing I ever wanted. It was my biggest fear. I went home, cried, talked to my husband, cried some more, talked to my mom and cried some more. I did NOT want a c section!
At the end of the day it wasn't about me or what I wanted. It was about this little baby I was about to have and making sure it came out healthy and safe! So at 39 weeks I scheduled my c section.
Now I have this beautiful baby GIRL who completed our big family! She is perfect and am so grateful to have the final piece of our puzzle."
