This mommy and me session was a little bit different then some of my other ones, as we added grandma in to these! Brittany and her family are pretty special to me, as she has become a really good friend to me over the last year and a half. I have loved watching their family grow and be able to take photos for them over the last year here.

Watching her kids around her mom just made me smile because it reminds me of my kids around their grandma. It also reminds me of how much we can miss out on with being a military family. A lot a families are able to have their kids grow up around their grandparents. They can walk down the street or drive over a couple of towns to visit, hang out for the day, eat dinner together, so on. In a military family we are often not anywhere close to family and do a lot of phone calls and FaceTime for the kids to be able to talk to and see their grandparents instead. I don't know about your military kids, but man ours don't miss a beat when they finally do get to see their grandparents again! Any time we go home to my mom and step-dads house the kids are talking about it the entire way there! They jump straight into my moms arms yelling "GRANDMA!" and give her the biggest hug. As soon as they see my step-dad they're yelling "PaPa let's go play ball!!" and it's like they weren't ever apart from them. We might not get to have weekly dinners, but the few dinners we get to have all together, while visiting, are long and time is spent around the table with stories and laughs, well after everyones plates have been cleared and the kids know that before bed, PaPa will ALWAYS makes popcorn for everyone to enjoy together. It's the little things that make time home for the kids the best.

So anyways, maybe military kiddos don't get to see their grandparents often but I know that special grandparent/grandkid bond is still there and they jump right back into the swing of things like they see each other every week!

Check out some of the photos from this session below and leave a comment to let me know what your kids and parents do together that make time with them so special!

Welcome to the world miss Rory Renee! Your mama has been one of my friends since the 7th grade, so when I found out you were coming into this world I was over the moon excited! I already love the stuffing out of your big brother and couldn't wait to snuggle you. When your mama told me it was time for you to make your appearance I loaded up the family here in Missouri and we made the three hour trip home to Illinois. You came into this world fast and furious girlfriend! I don't really know why we were all so surprised, we should have excepted you to make a dramatic entrance, after-all, you are your mothers daughter! When I finally got my hands on you and cuddled up in my arms I just couldn't believe how dang squishy you were. That hair! Those lips! Those cheeks! My goodness you were beautiful and so cuddly. When your grandpa brought up big brother oh man, my heart just melted. Landon is so in love with you. He could not stop smiling and telling us all how cute you were and how you're his little sister. You are going to have the best relationship with him I can already tell. You picked the perfect little family kid, your parents are pretty awesome. Watching your daddy love on you almost brought tears to my eyes, he loves you so much. Just from watching him with you that very first day of your life I could already tell you are going to have him wrapped around your little finger. What can I even say about your mom? Man, we've been through hell and back together I swear. It's rough to keep a friendship going so strong from age 13 to where we are now, but through the ups and the downs we are still the best of friends and I can tell you right now, she is one awesome mom. Watching her change over the years and then become a mom to your big brother was huge! She has done such an amazing job with him and I just know that she's going to do the same for you. You will be so loved and protected by her. She'd do anything for the two of you. You're going to be alright kiddo, you're gonna be alright in this big ole world. I'm so excited you're here and I just wanted to write this out for you so that you, and your brother, have something to look back on and read a few years down the road. Happy Birthday Rory, I love you ya little squishy peanut!

Samantha and the kiddos - Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri

"What does motherhood mean to me? Motherhood means always having to share the TV and my food. It means hardly getting a moment to myself. It means never ending laundry and constant cleaning up. But above all the "bad" stuff, motherhood means unconditional love. I love them for exactly who they are, and they love me for exactly who I am, and at the end of the day, all we ever need is LOVE." -Samantha Rodriguez

I met Sam a little over a year ago now and she has become one of my good friends here at Fort Leonard Wood. Her kiddos, Ainsley and Max, have also turned into really good friends of our kids and I have loved watching the two of them grow up over the last year. They are both just the sweetest little things and love their mama so much. Being able to do this mommy and me session for Sam, to capture their love between her and her babies, made my heart so happy. Take a look below to see some photos from this session.
